In Memory of Walter E. Walka
Devoted father/pop of Rebecca M. Walka, Robyn A. Walka and Rachel J. Walka. Devoted dziadek pop of Jeremy Walka and Jake Douglas Kuenzle. Devoted dziadek dog pop of Theo Bean aka Proud Boy/Theodosius. Dear brother of Edward B. Walka, Audrey J. Capone and James M. Walka.
Walter was born in Jersey City, NJ, at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital on September 4, 1948. Walter attended and graduated from Weehawken High School in 1966. Sergeant Walter E. Walka went on to serve our country in the Vietnam War starting on 16 Jun 68 thru 6 May 69. He was in the L.I.B Co B 5th Bn 12th Inf 199th Inf Bde APO. He was awarded a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Device 1960, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Rifle M-14 and has been fighting for the Silver Star Medal that he has yet to receive. Walter was severely wounded on 4 April 1969 by an I.E.D that broke both of his arms, broke both of his legs and also hit his abdomen. He spent over a year in Walter Reed Hospital before being transferred to and discharged from the East Orange New Jersey VA facility. Walter lived in Secaucus, NJ prior to retiring from PSE&G. After retirement, Walter lived out his remaining life in his favorite place in New Milford, PA. Walt loved the outdoors and shared that with his daughters. He loved cutting his fields, planting new trees, his solidarity, yet companionships with his few buddies both up and down the road. Walt was the proud owner of his flip phone and loved to send cryptic messages in order to limit the characters he needed to include; one of his favorites was AFU.
