In Memory of Julie Chenier Abrams
Julie Chenier Abrams entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in the loving company of her family at home. Born on April 23, 1956 in Opelousas, LA to Joseph Elijah Chenier and Ann Izola Chenier (née: Lastrapes), she was the youngest of nine children. Following her graduation from Opelousas Catholic High, Julie continued her lifelong passion for education and learning by obtaining a Master's of Business Administration in a joint degree program between Xavier University of Louisiana and Tulane University in 1979.
Julie quickly put her talents to use becoming the 64th licensed Black CPA in the State of Louisiana. While working at the Louisiana Board of Regents, she was recruited to join the faculty of the College of Business at Louisiana State University (LSU) at Baton Rouge. During her 35+ year tenure at LSU, she taught and touched the lives of thousands of accounting and business students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Her impact on the Business School over the years included both teaching and administrative positions such as the Assistant Dean in the College of Business. Julie's love of teaching and fostering students extended beyond the classroom. She was the faculty advisor to the Beta Alpha Psi Fraternity and also was awarded numerous accolades during her tenure.
Julie is survived by her husband, Dr. Mathew Abrams, Jr.; sons: John Joseph Chenier Abrams, Dr. Leland Abrams, and Dr. Mathew Abrams, III; her brothers: Patrick (Sidney), Maxuman (Rae), Anthony Gene, Richard (Glenda), and Gregory (Maryland) Chenier; sisters: Constance Chenier Thierry and Janice Chenier Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
