In Memory of Anne Hise
Anne Jessie Warren Hise, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on June 9, 2021 from natural causes at Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Anne was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on July 15, 1931. She was born to Gladys Patterson Warren and Lehr Arthur Warren. She was a graduate of Byrd High school and attended her Freshman and Sophomore years at Centenary College located in Shreveport, Louisiana. Anne was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at Centenary. Anne transferred to the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma in 1949-1950 and affiliated with the Chi Omega Sorority where she was elected President of the Chapter her senior year. Anne completed her undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1952 and a second undergraduate degree in Geological Engineering in 1953. Anne Warren was the first female to graduate in Petroleum Engineering at OU in 1952 and the only female in a class of 1000 males. Anne met Bill Rollin Hise, her husband of 67 years, as a student in Petroleum Engineering in 1951.
Anne and Bill were married on December 3, 1954. Bill joined the United States Air Force and were based at Edwards Air Force Base in Lancaster, California. Edwards (AFB) is the Air Force Flight Test Center and is the Air Force Material Command Center of excellence supporting NASA’s research and evaluation of aerospace systems from concepts to combat. It is also the home of the Armstrong Flight Research Center. While at Edwards (AFB), Anne worked as a civilian employee on the Convair F-102 Fighter while Bill served as an Officer. Anne and Bill welcomed their first child, Richard Warren, on November 8, 1955 while living in California.
After Bill’s Air Force service was completed, Anne and Bill moved to Donaldsonville, Louisiana to complete Bill’s Advanced Training Program as a Petroleum Engineer for Shell Oil Company. While living in Donaldsonville, Anne and Bill welcome their second child, Beverly Jean, on October 25, 1958. Bill and Anne were transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana with Shell Oil Co. and remained there for three years until 1960. In 1963, Bill was transferred again to Houston, Texas with Shell Oil Co. Anne worked at Rice University while living in Houston.
In 1964, Anne and Bill made the decision to leave Shell Oil Co. to spend more time raising their family without the numerous transfers in the future. Bill accepted a position on the Petroleum Engineering faculty at Louisiana State University. Anne accepted a position at the Coastal Studies Institute on the campus of LSU, where she stayed until she joined Bill in the consulting business.
In 1968, Anne and Bill decided to begin an oil and gas consulting company and named it Hise & Hise where they were both consulting petroleum engineers and geologists. Anne favored the “Landman” role in the business where she spent countless hours working with landowners who needed advice and help with leasing their land to large oil companies. She truly helped a lot of people over her lifetime! In 1980, Anne and Bill made the decision for Bill to leave LSU and go into the consulting business full time together. This was the time of the Tuscaloosa Trend “oil and gas boom” in Louisiana.
In 1983, Anne and Bill welcomed their son, Richard, into the oil and gas company and renamed it The Hise Company. Richard opened the Lafayette offices of The Hise Company in 1983. In 1996, Pennington Oil Company hired Anne, Bill and Richard to take over the drilling and operations part of the family owned oil company. “Doc” Pennington really was impressed with Anne as a female in the oil and gas field. Bill, Anne and Richard welcomed Richard and Debra’s son and Anne’s grandson, Forrest, into The Hise Company in 2017 and the oil company still sustains the legacy began by Bill and Anne in the 1970’s.
