In Memory of Gregory D. “Greg” Elliott
Greg, 66, of Pine Prairie, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in his residence. He was born on September 1, 1958, in Ville Platte, La to the union of Jesse and Bessie Elliott.
Greg was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Pine Prairie High School and was a proud graduate of Louisiana State University in Petroleum Engineering. Greg always loved Louisiana life, hunting, and fishing as a child. Upon growing up and starting his career, he began to experience his dream of becoming an avid hunter and fisherman.
Greg enjoyed Astro’s baseball games, and football games at the LSU stadium. He was a world traveler going to most of the countries of this world. Greg especially loved teaching and encouraging hunting with the youth and the disabled veterans. But most of all, he was fulfilled and the happiest being a “Grand Paw”.
Greg received his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from LSU in December 1981. He worked for Chevron Corporation in January 1982 as a Drilling Engineer in the Gulf of Mexico and the Deep Gas Tuscaloosa trend of South Louisiana. In 1986, he transferred to Chevron overseas headquarters located in San Ramon, California. He served as a Well Test Engineer, frequently traveling to Africa, Europe and Asia before joining Chevron’s International Drilling team in 1989 where he planned and drilled wells in Africa, Europe, Asia, Former Soviet Union and South America through 1996. In 1997, he founded Workstrings International, a premium drill pipe oilfield rental tool company headquartered in Lafayette, La. His company was the first to create and develop, on a large scale, a certain market sector in the oil industry that did not exist in the past.
Greg was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE), and the LSU Alumni Association. Also, he was a member of various sporting and wildlife conservation organizations. He was lifetime member of NRA and Safari Club International (SCI). Greg, and his wife Missy founded the Louisiana Acadiana Chapter SCI in 2015. Greg was a member of the LSU College of Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council and the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering’s Industry Advisory Council. He was inducted into the College’s Hall of Distinction in 2016 for his career accomplishments and the College’s Society for Engineering Excellence for his generous philanthropic support.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Elliott and Bessie Elliott.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melissa “Missy” Elliott of Pine Prairie, La; brother, Karl “Buddy” and (Cindy) Elliott of Pine Prairie; sister, Kay Vidrine (Quirk) of Deridder, LA; Stepson, Kyle Peterson (Candace) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Granddaughter, Mila Rose Peterson of Little Rock, Arkansas; Nieces, Bridget (Shawn) Manuel, Summer (Jack) Sanford, and Hollie Elliott Forman; Nephews, Nick Vidrine and Clint Elliott; and a host of family, friends, and a devoted group of faithful employees.
